Climate Action Living Laboratory (CALL) Faculty, Staff, and Graduate/Undergraduate Student Affiliation Survey

CALL Vision: The Virginia Tech Climate Action Living Laboratory (CALL) will integrate students and faculty with staff through a collaborative framework to achieve the 2020 Climate Action Commitment. Through transformative research, teaching & learning, and service, the CALL will support a sustainable, equitable built and cultural environment for campus and the surrounding community.

Climate Action Commitment Background: The Climate Action Commitment or CAC is the university's comprehensive set of environmental policies that guides university decision making. It was initially adopted in 2009 because of the advocacy of students and faculty on campus and has since been updated several times with the most recent iteration being approved by the Board of Visitors in March 2021. This most recent version of the CAC has 15 goals that the university needs to achieve, the majority of which are due by 2030 including full carbon neutrality, 100% renewable energy, zero-waste campus, and adopting climate justice as a key framework in the university. In order to achieve these lofty goals and push forward the educational mission of Virginia Tech the CAC also lays out the CALL to offer the campus itself as an experimental testing ground and experiential learning site. Joining the CALL will help the university meet its goals and also provide some key benefits for faculty and graduate student researchers/educators. Not only will it connect you to a host of experiential learning projects, it will also create more funding and interdisciplinary partnership opportunities to increase the scale of environmental research at Virginia Tech.
