2023 REACH REU Summer Undergraduate Research Program Application
Advancing the science of reactive metals and polymeric binders used as the building blocks of modern energetic materials

2023 Reactive Metals, Energetics, and High-Enthalpy Flows (REACH) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Application
Summer 2023 Program Dates: May 22 - July 28, 2023

The Reactive Metals, Energetics, and High-Enthalpy Flows (REACH) REU Site hosted by the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech will fully immerse undergraduate students in research, communication, and career development activities focused on the interdisciplinary theme of reactive metals and binders and their application to energetic materials. The program will enable discovery at the intersection of mechanochemical processing, polymer chemistry and additive manufacturing, multiphase combustion, solid rocket propulsion, detonation of metal-gas mixtures, and advanced diagnostics. The educational focus of the REACH REU program is to broaden the scientific base of undergraduates and reward interdisciplinary research through hands-on, team-based science. The program is intended to be a pathway to a scientific career in energetics, reactive metals, and related disciplines for women, underrepresented students, and those from institutions lacking structured research opportunities.
For more information about the REU program, please see the REU page at http://www.reach.eng.vt.edu/ or contact Eric Jacques at ejacques@vt.edu
