Now Accepting Project Applications for Summer 2026

The Kohl Centre at Virginia Tech is excited to announce the call for projects for the 2026 VT Data Science for the Public Good (VT-DSPG) summer program! The VT-DSPG program brings together university students, faculty, and stakeholders to apply modern data science methods to messy, large, or complex community data, turning it into actionable insights that drive informed decision-making and innovative solutions.

Projects will be completed over 10 weeks running from May 25 to July 31, 2026, with a final symposium on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Learn more about the VT-DSPG program: https://dspg.aaec.vt.edu/

We're especially interested project proposals that involve collaboration with public-serving stakeholders (e.g., local governments, nonprofits, schools, government agencies) and industry partners that contribute to the public good.  Topics may include, but are not limited to:

- Poverty and eviction
- Food security
- Community health and substance abuse recovery
- Economic resilience and job migration
- Youth workforce development
- Land use changes and business retention
