VT Summer Strings 2026 is a 3-day mini-residential camp on the VT campus in Blacksburg, VA for Rising 9th-12th graders who have had a minimum of two years of instruction on violin, viola, cello, or double bass. VT Summer Strings is a great opportunity for high school violin, viola, cello, and double bass players to: hone your playing skills, participate in chamber music, read new string orchestra music, explore the convergence of music and technology, experience audio spatialization of your chamber music group's music, work in VT's audio lab, creating a 3D, immersive sound environment, have the experience of living on a college campus, meet new high school-age musicians and make friends over music, and study with Virginia Tech music faculty and professional musicians and staff, including counselors and educators, to make it a great weekend.
This camp is June 12-14, 2026. Students will stay in the dorms with other participants during camp. The instructors are Dr. John Irrera, Assistant Professor of Violin, Molly Wilkens-Reed, Collegiate Assistant Professor of Viola, Alan Weinstein, Professor - Cello, Bass, Chamber Music, Yi-Wen Evans, VT String Project Master Teacher, and Dr. Charles Nichols, Professor - Composition, Creative Technologies.
