Women of Color in the Academy Awards

The Zenobia Lawrence Hikes Award recognizes a woman of color with a distinguished career (more than 15 years) in higher education demonstrated by scholarly endeavors or administrative and professional accomplishments. Additionally, she is an engaged member of her campus and community, with a history of advancing the development of women of color as they pursue their education and prepare for careers in the academy and beyond.
Who can be nominated?
Women of color who are tenured associate and full professors. Administrators such as deans, provosts, vice presidents, chief diversity officers and other executive senior level positions.
Woman of Excellence Award recognizes a woman of color with a budding career in higher education demonstrated by less than 15 years of professional scholarly endeavors or administrative and professional accomplishments. She is an engaged member of her campus and community, with a history of advancing the development of women of color as they pursue their education and prepare for careers in the academy and beyond.
Who can be nominated?
Teaching and research tenure-track assistant professors, adjunct professors, and professors of practice. Administrators at the Assistant, Associate, and Director levels, as well as academic advisors, and student affairs professionals.
Future of the Academy Award recognizes a woman of color early in her professional career, specifically at the doctoral and post-doctoral levels. She is an engaged member of her campus and community who has made scholarly accomplishments, demonstrated leadership, and embodied the meaning of sisterhood by serving and uplifting women of color through and beyond her scholarship.
Who can be nominated?
Women of color working who are doctoral students or candidates or those currently serving as a post-doctoral associates in any field.
How can I nominate someone?
Use this form to nominate and upload supporting material. Nominations need to include: A nomination statement of 500-800 words describing how the nominee meets the award criteria.
Nominations should address:
- Nominee's scholarly achievements and/or professional and administrative accomplishments
- Contributions to mentoring, leadership ability, and/or service to their institution and community.
- Use specific examples to demonstrate how the nominee has encouraged the growth, support or empowerment of other women of color (i.e. colleagues and students).
- Describe why you think this woman is beacon to women of color and should be recognized by the academy.
What happens next?
The woman you nominate will be contacted by the planning committee so that she accept your nomination. In order to accept your nomination she will need to submit her resume/CV and a brief personal statement.
Deadline
Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday January 31, 2023 at 11:59PM EST. The nominee's acceptance packet will be due Tuesday February 14, 2023.
