2023 Reactive Metals, Energetics, and High-Enthalpy Flows (REACH) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Application
Summer 2023 Program Dates: May 22 - July 28, 2023

The Reactive Metals, Energetics, and High-Enthalpy Flows (REACH) REU Site hosted by the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech will fully immerse undergraduate students in research, communication, and career development activities focused on the interdisciplinary theme of reactive metals and binders and their application to energetic materials. The program will enable discovery at the intersection of mechanochemical processing, polymer chemistry and additive manufacturing, multiphase combustion, solid rocket propulsion, detonation of metal-gas mixtures, and advanced diagnostics. The educational focus of the REACH REU program is to broaden the scientific base of undergraduates and reward interdisciplinary research through hands-on, team-based science. The program is intended to be a pathway to a scientific career in energetics, reactive metals, and related disciplines for women, underrepresented students, and those from institutions lacking structured research opportunities.

The completed application and letters of recommendation from two references are due by February 24, 2023 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. Note that it is the responsibility of each applicant to inform their references about the submission deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

 

Decision notifications will be send by the last week of March 2023 to the email address provided in the application.
